The Deep End has announced that their new horror game “Perception” will be coming to PS4. Unfortunately, no official release date has been announced as yet. The Deep End Games will be developing Perception and is comprised of developers that worked on the original Bioshock and Dead Space.
The new game was announced to be coming to PS4 via The PlayStation Blog, and will be released by brand new publisher Feardemic. According to the blog post, Feardemic is “a new publishing label focused on bringing players unique psychological horror games.”
Perception follows a blind heroine named Cassie as she uses echolocation to navigate a haunted estate. This estate has been filling Cassie’s nightmares, and now she has tracked it down to the town of Gloucester, Massachusetts. It is immediately apparent that the haunting presence in the house has been tormenting its inhabitants for years. Now Cassie must use “her extraordinary hearing and razor-sharp wits to unravel the mysteries of an abandoned estate that haunts her dreams.”
The Deep End Games originally launched their Kickstarter for Perception on May 26, 2015 and has raised $168,041 from 4,357 backers.
The original Dead Space is easily, in my opinion, the best survival horror game ever made, and Bioshock is clearly in the top echelon of games all-time. I am beyond excited to hear that members from these two development teams are coming together to make a horror game with such a unique gameplay mechanic. Dead Space and Bioshock both feature extremely dense environments that enrich the story. I am really curious if this is still something they will be striving for, and if so to see how they will be able to do this with a blind protagonist.
